It's also the only three class that includes girls, apart from the music and art class, guaranteed by the single-gender researvation quota varying each year by the total number of accepted students. There will be pathway courses right after the addmission and extra 8th classes on grade 12.

In 2022, the number of students in the science class of CYSH is reduced to 20 (4 single-gender reservations), possibly due to the previous graduating class having too many Medicine majors.

In 2023, the quota is adjusted to 25, which may be due to the rising number of Olympiad students of CYSH at that year.

==Regulations==
The science class is a national program established by the Ministry of Education, supported by the "高級中等學校科學班辦理要點" regulation. The number of students enrolled nationally is fixed each year. However, the number of high schools in Taiwan that run the science class may change each year, hence the quota of new students in each school every year is not constant. The board that decides how many new students will be appointed to each school appoints a team to visit the school each year. The decision is then determined based on the "performance" of each school in the previous year, which could be correlated with the response of the 3 students picked from each class for a small talk, what the students of the graduating science class major in or the number of students participating in Olympiads.

A special regulation of the CYSH science class is that the students automatically enroll in the [[Club of Science Research]] with no option to choose or create other clubs.

==Curriculum==
As per the regulations, the science class should encourage students to pursue elementary sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Math, Physics, etc.) More experiment sessions (as compared to other classes) should be scheduled. Humanity subjects such as Social Studies, History, Geography, Arts, Music, etc. are often, though not always, exchanged for subjects related to science. More credits are designated to science-related subjects as well. Schools that do not comply with the policies may receive a warning, or get punished by the board decreasing the number of new students in the following year. It is also encouraged that teachers let the students prepare content that is not yet taught, which implies that teachers should design quizzes to measure the effects of the students' pre-class efforts.

The pursuit of the Department of Medicine (and some related others) is highly favored in Taiwanese society. Academically well-performing students are strongly encouraged to set the National Taiwan University's Department of Medicine as their first choice. However, the Ministry of Education dislikes science class students majoring in Medicine, since it is not considered an elementary Science subject and disobeys the original intent of the program. Too many Medicine majors could implicitly lead to less quota for new students in the near future.

一個歡樂可愛<del>又無腦智障</del>的班級，常常被其他班級錯誤認識，但事實上並非如此。

也是嘉中唯三（音樂美術科學）有女生班級之一，只不過每年僅三名女生入學(2018年開始固定招收5名女性學生保障名額)，高一開學之前就會舉辦暑期輔導銜接課程，高三時仍需上第八節。

有自己的社團[[科學研究社]]。

2019年首度有女同學考取台灣大學醫學系<br/>

2009年設立第一批科學班，辦理高中為建國中學、師大附中、竹科實中、臺中一中、臺南一中及高雄中學等6校。2011年核定第二批科學班，分別是武陵高中、彰化高中及嘉義高中3校。2018年核定第三批科學班，為北一女中。
